At UNMC, I wanted to find an effective and efficient way to engage our community, while also encouraging them to socialize among themselves. Inspired by the popular blog, Humans of New York, Humans of UNMC launched in March 2016. Like Brandon Stanton implemented with HONY, our version of this viral social media campaign seeks to tell the stories of individuals in our community through a single quote and photo.

The stories told through this series have been profound and relatable, and it has become the most engaging series of social media posts that UNMC has ever had, receiving an Honorable Mention for the Shoestring Marketing Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges. These posts each received $10 in paid support, optimized across Facebook and Instagram, and achieved unprecedented engagement and reach for UNMC.
